Put It On A Plate

March 14, 2014 by Ken

Have you ever been snacking on some food and been told that you should put it on a plate because it’ll taste better?  Now, as a person who spent the first quarter century of my life frequently eating on the run (and often standing up), I always found this advice strange, if not quaint.  OK, I admit it, I actually thought it was quite funny and parental.  And while I still have a love of eating street food on the […]

Photo Sketch – Evening Fog

March 10, 2014 by Ken

When travelling by car, I’m usually the driver and am therefore limited in my ability to photograph.  Recently, a friend offered to drive, and I was able to enjoy, and photograph, some early evening winter fog that was rolling in as the sun began to set.  The following images are a bit impressionistic in nature, and only minimally processed, so as to best convey the time and place of our journey as best I remember. –Ken

Farmland Cathedrals

March 5, 2014 by Ken

For the better part of six years, a good portion my life consisted of sitting in large, dark lecture halls where I attempted to simultaneously take notes while also looking at slides being projected onto a large screen.  While degrees in history and urban planning were eventually conferred upon me, only my transcripts gave any indication as to how close I was to almost becoming an academic vampire.  You see, while I did take many a class required for these […]

Photo Sketch – And Everywhere There Was A Song And Celebration

February 5, 2014 by Ken

Apologies to Joni Mitchell, but we were half a million seven hundred thousand strong today in the streets of Seattle.  The Seattle Seahawks held their Superbowl victory parade and a crowd equal to the city of Detroit’s entire population showed up on a cold, sunny day to celebrate.  People camped out over night in 20-degree weather to get a seat along the parade route.  It was an invasion of blue and green, and apologies to Nigel Tufnel, but today, Seattle […]

“…To See Things New” – Gallery/Slideshow

February 3, 2014 by Ken

While I am continuing to narrate and post all of the images displayed at my July 2013 exhibit, “…To See Things New”, all of the images on display can now also be seen in a gallery/slideshow format for those wishing to see the exhibit in its entirety: http://photos.chroniclephoto.com/toseethingsnew. Regarding the photo above, it is one of my favorite plants in my beloved’s garden.  Oriental poppies in full bloom, a personal harbinger of summer weather, can be a bit elusive in the […]

Introducing – Photo Sketches

January 31, 2014 by Ken

Sometimes rules were meant to be broken.  In this case, I am going to channel my best Johnny Depp and say that the rules that I established for this blog were really more like “guidelines”.  When I set up this blog, I did so with the intent of using thoughts and images together.  And as much as I enjoy my photography, I am all but too well aware that our society is awash in images today.  So, I decided that […]

Giving Back

November 29, 2013 by Ken

I am very pleased to announce that through the generosity of a number of people, donations totaling $1,171.50 were made to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s Patient and Family Assistance Fund in honor of my summer photo exhibition, “To See Things New”.  As a thank you gift to those who donated, I had Printability, a nonprofit organization dedicated to placing people with disabilities in the workplace, press custom coffee mugs with the following images from the show. Since the exhibition, […]

Autumn Leaves

October 28, 2013 by Ken

While I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for over half of my life, I was born and raised in the Midwest.  And while it was not too hard to take the boy out of the Midwest, it has been much harder taking the Midwest out of the boy.  And never is this more apparent to me then in fall. As a child and young adult, the transition from late summer to fall was one of my favorite times of […]

A Walk Through The Garden

September 29, 2013 by Ken

Those of you who know me well enough know that gardening is to my beloved as photography is to me.  It is a place to get away form the daily grind, and let a bit of creativity flow. And while I have always appreciated the beauty of a garden, it was not normally a place that you would normally find me relaxing or recreating.  Yes, I have been known to head up to the tulip festival in the Skagit Valley […]

There is nothing wrong with your television set…

September 21, 2013 by Ken

“Do not attempt to adjust the picture.  We are controlling transmission.” And for those of you who did not grow up watching the “The Outer Limits”, I will kindly translate.  You did not land at the wrong web site, and yes, things do look a bit different. After much consideration, I have decided to implement some style changes, both in appearance and written content.  While the previous appearance emphasized graphic content, it proved to be a bit more intense than I […]

Full Sail Ahead

August 1, 2013 by Ken

I apologize for the long delay in putting up a post, but last month’s photo exhibit and reception seemed to fill up any and all available time, and then some.  The reception was well attended, and I wish to again say “Thank You” to the many people who graciously donated to charity in honor of the exhibit.  All in all, it was a nice celebration, and a great way to informally launch this blog.  Unfortunately, like all good things, the […]

Exhibition Q&A

July 1, 2013 by Ken

I apologize for not having posted since early May, but my time has been extremely limited, and there always seems to be more items needing more time and attention than scheduled.  The photos, though, are now on display!  There are a few minor things still in need of attention, but we were able to get all of the images up on the walls today. I have received a number of questions about the exhibit, and I thought I would take […]
