Thoughts On Holiday

May 25, 2015 by Ken

It has been several months since I have been able to post, and I was very excited with the prospect of putting up a small series of them after being on holiday in Hawaii with my beloved a few weeks ago.  It was our first time visiting the islands, and it was a long overdue trip that was all but prescribed by my medical team in their effort to grant my body a bit of greatly needed rest and recuperation these past few years.  We […]

Don’t Blink!

October 2, 2014 by Ken

First, my apology for not having posted in some time.  Work and chronic health issues have occupied the majority of my time the past few months, and that has left me with little free time to put together a post.  It seems that every time I try to get into any kind of rhythm on posting, life has a habit of creeping in and making things interesting.  Or, as we are fond of saying in our house, “Man plans, God laughs”. If […]

Wheel of Fortune

August 8, 2014 by Ken

It was Wheel of Fortune week around these parts beginning this past Monday.  Two work colleagues started off the week with CT scans on Monday, and closed it out this morning with mine.  My colleagues are currently in treatment for breast and lung cancer, and my scan was a routine follow-up from my cancer treatment last year.  I am hoping that what follows sounds somewhat foreign to you, because if it does not, then I am fairly certain that you or somebody you know has […]

Two Jesters Named Mel

May 26, 2014 by Ken

Mel, a very close friend of one of my photographic mentors, was often fond of saying, “Come on!  Let’s go!  We’re burnin’ daylight!”  The first time I heard this expression, I thought it was funny, but totally in keeping with Mel, the busy New Yorker that he was.  And while I still find it to be a funny expression many years later, I’ve gained a healthy dose of respect for the wisdom, not just in the realm of photography, but also as it […]

Thoughts On Spring

April 6, 2014 by Ken

While many would often believe, especially this time of year, that winter seems to be the longest season in the Pacific Northwest, I truly believe that honor belongs to spring.  Snow Drops, an early harbinger of the season, often start to appear as early as mid-February.  And while we are just over two weeks into the season according to the calendar, it appears that the hellebore blooms in our yard have passed their peak, and are now giving up a bit of the limelight to daffodils […]

On Growing Old(er)

March 28, 2014 by Ken

In one of his rare, but famous interviews, the 2000 Year Old Man (aka Mel Brooks) wisely warned us that “we mock the thing we are to be”.  And in my travels through life, I have found this bit of wisdom to be truer that I sometimes care to admit.  I have also tried to take this bit of wisdom to heart as I have aged, even though I do not consider myself that old (barring the AARP invitation I received last year).  But today, however, […]

There is nothing wrong with your television set…

September 21, 2013 by Ken

“Do not attempt to adjust the picture.  We are controlling transmission.” And for those of you who did not grow up watching the “The Outer Limits”, I will kindly translate.  You did not land at the wrong web site, and yes, things do look a bit different. After much consideration, I have decided to implement some style changes, both in appearance and written content.  While the previous appearance emphasized graphic content, it proved to be a bit more intense than I […]

New Works on Display

June 28, 2013 by Ken

This January, I was asked by a local nonprofit agency to submit a number of images for their consideration.  They were completing major renovations to one of their buildings, and were looking for art to display in the offices and common areas.  The agency had initially considered purchasing stock photos, but after a lengthy discussion, my contact who was heading up this project reconsidered, and was instead willing to consider the works of several local photographers.  The renovation work concluded […]
